I always laugh at dudes who do this. I don't know if it's true, but I heard that it was started in men's prisons by the, um, wannabe "fems" who were advertising their availability.

Not to mention that those supposed "gangstas" can't run and fighting them would be easy since all you have to do is grab the underside and yank 'em right off their feet. It's just plain stupid all the way around IMO.

It's not. I hear this a lot from people who complain about sagging and use it as a way to slander the practice. Sagging originated in prisons where prisoners were not allowed to have belts. This was for many reasons, such as it's use as a weapon or for commiting suicide by hanging oneself. This was back when people wore jeans or other styles of pants that didn't have pull strings like we have today in prison.
