Yeah with trains made in China and workers from Mexico. Blah.... All the west is working like this nowadays. Rebuilding will give no boost to the economy or the people the country was made by.

I think the problem here was that any profits went into the pockets of the individual owners of the railroads. Rather into developing new train technology. They lived like kings though! But now look at their system! It's designed for freight not passengers. I can remember going cross country in the early sixties. It was an real adventure! I couldn't imagine doing that trip again. Rattling along for three or four day's. If I go anywhere nowadays I will fly for sure.

Six of us took a compartment and partied for several days. I haven't flown since the TSA started with the pre-flight groping, and since I usually travel "with a friend on my belt' I don't expect I'll be flying anytime soon. Trains are looking better again. I'm down here by Phoenix and to catch a train I think you have to ride a bus to Flagstaff. I'd have to check on that! |

There is no more demand for "high speed" rail than there is actual, real money to pay for it. If there was somebody, believe me, somebody would be making money on it. Throwing $100s of billions that we can't afford down the drain for pet projects in certain districts so politicians look good is for shit. Costs billions to build and billions to run, which is funny 'cause no one ever talks about operating costs and tax payer subsidies. High speed rail from Chicago to Milwaukee, for what? for whom? Tax payers have been milked for millions, not to mention toll hikes, to build up and rebuild 94/294 between the two cities. Now there's a call for rail? What union assholes strongarm and protest the local governments in Springfield and Madison for this shit and sell it all as "jobs, jobs, jobs". Bullshit. |

It's a fact, GM and Standard both, together, among others, bought out hundreds of street car routes, companies, etc... just to shut them down and get more cars on the road. More rail transit means less cars on the roads, less gasoline sold and less oil used. Can't have that here, we need to keep you slaves to the credit card companies, the banks and big oil. |
