A few for you to check out, Ableton Live, Propellerheads Reason, (similar to FL) Pro Tools, Cakewalk, Cubase, I've never tried using "Acoustica Mixcraft Recording Studio" so I can't comment on that one... If you're new to using music sequencing or Digital Audio Workstation software, I would say "Acid Pro" is the one to go for.. it has the most friendly user interface.. simplest one to use if you just want to work with loops(just drag, drop and place) and if you're feeling a bit more creative there's the MIDI editor.. write some stuff in there, hook up some VSTi's and you got your own production.. Theres also a huge active community on ACIDPlanet if you ever need help.... FL Studio is good for making loops.. but on the other hand has quite a steep learning curve and you can get lost inside the interface when you first start using it. Quite a powerful program in terms of theres a huge amount of stuff you can do with it and once you figured your way around, you'll be able to bang out loops quite quickly. All of these software are ReWire apps which means you can hook them up with each other.. The set-up I used to use was 'Acid Pro' for music arrangement ReWired with FL Studio for the drum sequencer and some of the synths... Some producers I know use 'Ableton Live' ReWired with 'Propellerheads Reason', it just really depends on how serious you are about your music production... Acid Pro and FL Studio are considered good stepping stones to more 'professional' software like 'Pro Tools','Ableton Live' & 'Cubase' As for getting loops, there are loop packs catering to most styles of music scattered around on the net, it just depends what kind of music you're looking to produce. |

Only one i'm familiar with is "FL Studio XXL 7" but truth be told, unless your a professional, your probably not going to get far with it. Because i have plenty of friends who "tried" to remix music and in the end, its rather complicated. Just warning you before you put massive amounts of time into it and get nothing out of it. But then again im a college student with often little time, but if you have lots of free time or your job demands it, then i'd say FL studio is used by several of my local radio stations since the radio hosts were talking about it.

Ableton Live 7 is my choice and I really love using it. Some people think it's way to complicated for making music but I think it's the easiest one out of Cubase, FL Studio etc. Amazing program! |
