Was that the original Tom and Jerry, cos even when I was watching those toons as a kid I was horrified with their depictions of minorities.

Oh believe me when I say this crap started way before Obama.
P.C. (Political Correctness) creeped into society during the 70's with the feminist movement then snowballed from there.
Don't say, write, draw or do anything to offend anyone else in this country.
Damn! Now you got me fired up!!!

I have been watching some of the first seasons of Saturday Night Live (late 70s) and I was shocked by some of the racist things that were said. And the fact that black actors went along with them. Things like that would not even be considered being aired these days. It's interesting how much things have changed. I also have to wonder how much our attitudes have changed and how much is because of censorship.

You'd like to think that people could just see things for what they are/were, but I guess concerns like to cover themselves by issuing warnings for just about everything these days.
Seems rather hypocritical though to state how terribly "wrong" something is while you're making it available to people! (For financial gain presumably)

I grabbed some of these in HD a few months back and the mid-period ones are just brilliant.
The violence and caricatures of black people are quite alien in our time of political correctness, but these kind of nostalgic gems are harmless now since they need to be actively sought out.
It's not like they're being broadcast hourly on mainstream TV as racist propaganda.

It's beem an aweful long time since I've last seen Tom & Jerry, but I don't recall any racial slur in it, at least nothing that I realised when I used to watch it. But I guess adults make everything out of nothing, as they did with most of the old time classic cartoons (e.g. Johnny Bravo, Cow & Chicken, Courage the Cowardly Dog).

I read about some of the 'issues' people had with the cartoon, and it's really sad. Gee, I wonder if every minority on the world had a slice of influence over the TV, I wonder what would happen to our entertainment, oh wait...

I do wish people would stop screaming about political correctness somehow being this terrible thing. It is easy to say statements like this when you are not, yourself a minority (which you very well may be, but judging from your post, I'd think not). Being receptive to another person's life is something I believe to be very important.

P.S. Lets try not, to drag the President into something not related to him.

That is just ridiculous. Political correctness is becoming Orwell's 1984 New Speak.

To be Caucasian is ungood.

I love Tom and Jerry, I am black and I watch it to this day, most of my family loves the cartoons. I don't see nothing wrong with the warning either. Some people say that the cartoons are violent therefor inappropriate for children...
Cookie monster was a victim to the this so called political correctness.

As I stated early I'm black, or as a prefer to be called in my language "Negro", witch is something that for some reason it's very uncomfortable in some places, but my point is black people are very sensitive when comes to racism, we can never me racist because we are black, we even got a Black Entertainment Television, but if there was a White Entertainment Television it would be the most racist thing in the world.

Excuse me. Due to a handicap of mine I'm well aware of being part of a minority. From time to time it gets joked with it, but my toes really aren't long enough to actually start a revolution about such trivial insults.

But besides that, in a free society you'd best start building a shield, because with a free society, there comes freedom of expression, with freedom of expression comes freedom of opinions, and some of those might be insulting to you. And trust me, there are alot of opinions (as it should).

What is it with calling White folk Caucasian too? I never understood that and first heard about it on south park. What's wrong with saying your white?

I don't like it when black people use the race card neither. It's a thing that has gone well past its funny by date. I have a few friends who are black but I have never had to say anything to confirm with people that they're black. Hi, i'm XXXX and this is my black friend YYYY.

But for some black comedians.. it's all they can come up with... shows how much talent they have I guess.

quite refreshing to see the admission of politically insensitive depiction from the past being acknowledged now. at least current extremist has not pushed for materials like this be destroyed yet. but it just goes to show that our society is constantly growing & improving. its part of being human.
