Default "Harry Potter a look back"

This Sunday is the one year anniversary for the final harry potter film. Deathly Hallows Part 2. This time last year the film smashed box office records with a final count of $1,328,111,219. We watched them grow up on the big screen and its hard to believe that it's over. Take a trip down memory lane and check out this trailer from WB for all 8 films.

Meh, the Harry Potter series kinda stopped for me at The Chambre of Secrets. It's a shame Richard Harris died, because that's when my interest in the series faded. The venerable & state of tranquility was just exactly how Dumbledore should be.

Michael Gambon's take on the role on the other hand, it just seemed odd why Dumbledore suddenly needed to be this course and rough (in terms of body language and loudness) old man. Also Dumbledore's mentality of being Harry's godfather just seemed compeltely gone for no reason. As if the old wizard decided "here Harry, I helped you grow up for 2 years, now f**k off and take care of your own".

Though that's not the sole reason. As age progressed and the Harry & Co. crew grew up, they just put on this act as annoying teens stuffed with sexual frustration and incapable of dealing with their personal feudes.

Thus the joy of actually reading. The books allow one to go just as deep into the story as one wishes. One might also check out the massive amount of 'fan fiction', some of which is pretty darn good.

I enjoyed the movies, but there is no comparison to the rich world created by the books. As an 'old man', I early on learned how to picture what I read. In 1960 I got my first library card, have an extremely eclectic book list, and am very easy to please. Which is why I did not find the 'Harry Potter' movies as objectionable as some.
