Robert Crumb already did a comic version called "Whiteman Meets Bigfoot". Uptight suburban husband is kidnapped by a lusty hairy female bigfoot while on a camping trip. Love blossoms. After a disastrous attempt to introduce her to civilization, they return to the wilderness and live happily ever after.

The best case for a Hollywood remake would be to stick to the original plot and locations, use Americans for some of the cast, and spend more on special effects, but not add so much ridiculous CGI that it looks like a video game.

So it seems Beefsister and I have written down a remake plot without knowing ... gosh, you can't write anything without remaking something, it sounds very avant-garde and very postmodern :-/

Unfortunately in Hollywood they know very well they want to remake Trolljegeren. That is plagiarism, not post-modernism.

Why?
Because the american movie industry is a bunch of harpies, vultures and hyenas, salvaging every bit of intellectual property that promises a quick load of money and is better than whatever boring recycled dreck they can bring up themselves.
Innovation doesn´t exist in their vocabulary ya know.
I disagree on the 'american movie industry' part. The section of Hollywood that produces the big budget (by this I mean big marketing budget) hits that open in saturation worldwide - yes maybe you have a point. But you are also tarring with that brush the independent part of the industry that often comes up with innovative films.

Small European directors try hard to make a good and original movie, then Hollywood buys it and makes a movie out of it.

Oh well, if both sides are happy I have absolutely nothing against it.
As I see it, the money that goes to the Scandinavian film makers selling their scripts is wonderful for those of us Americans who can manage to read subtitles and breath at the same time, as it funds the next great Scandinavian film which we will see in its original version.

While I usually dread any form of Hollywood remake, Let Me In was surprisingly good. I guess we can only hope that this one follows suit.

Hell Yes! Please remake the movie. A quick glance at the following post reveals that most of your fellow forum mates list 80% of their favorite movies as American films, remakes or otherwise.

Top 5 Greatest Films of All Time?

Trollhunter was good in VO but it would reach a much wider audience as an American film. Furthermore, anyone who believes that Finchers "Girl with a Dragon Tattoo" is not equal to or better than the VO is just not being fair to themselves. I could name dozens of examples of American remakes being better than the VO but the argument is so baseless it is not worth a thinking persons time.

Sure, alot of mindless garbage is produced in the US as I believe is true in other countries. Maybe the difference is people care so little (on a global level) of small French movies et al that they pass them by without a glance and head right for the flashy American blockbuster.

I watched both versions. Fincher's version is not so good as the original, even if the original is in Swedish with English subtitles. IMO, ça va sans dire
