These are the Time points on the old HDTV rip.Muddy-pixelated picture is found here at these points:
RobotSquid/FlashingExplosions : 1hr 3min 45sec to 1hr 4min 25sec 1hr 6min 0sec to 1hr 8min 0sec 1hr 9min to 1hr 10min 30sec AgentSmith fighting Neo in the Rain/Lightning: 1hr 43min0sec to 1hr 44min 14sec 1hr 46min 45sec to 1hr 47min 30sec These complex scenes were just too much to handle for the broadcasts on HBOhd,TNThd,etc... So I am almost certain that your HDDVD version is far superior now. Atleast I am crossing my fingers. Even the regular DVD doesnt get this ugly. Thanks for checking these scenes for me! ![]() |

i remember those awful scenes from the HDTV version, just awful! i now have ESiR's HDDVD version and have watched all three all the way through, and the quality is so much better! definitely worth getting these over the old ones. you won't be disappointed.

After my ventures in comparing Matrix Revolutions HDTV verses these HDDVD rips, I did notice one benefit of the HDTV rips. And that is--it has an "OPEN MATTE" format that fills up the screen 16x9 instead of the widescreen aspect. This means you get more picture at the top and bottom than the widescreen cut. On this HDDVD version,at the beginning of the movie, I noticed people's heads and legs are cut off more than in the openmat version. So both copies have pros and cons against each other. But if you had to choose one, then this copy will suffice!!
But it is still worth having both versions of this for the die hard fans.LOL. Last edited by pinbwiz; 12-12-2007 at 02:21 PM. |

Join our free community today! wait, what? these HDDVD's are supposed to be in the original aspect ratio, which means they should contain more on the sides than the HDTV version. imo, HDDVD is definitely the way to go. |

Join our free community today! Yes, Don't be startled or confused, this is the reality of HDTV today. On HBOHD/CinemaxHD you tend to get an open matte version of some movies which gives you more picture at top and bottom and only very few scenes from a movie have the left and right part cutoff. Some movie producers have made two different framed versions specifically to address 16x9 HDTVs. So in actuallity the original aspect ratio of movies in the theater are sometimes cutting off the tops and bottoms just to maintain a 2:40:1 aspect ratio. And when it is released on HDTV you get a greater framed picture. This is exactly what I noticed on the HDTV cut versus DVD/HDDVD versions for MatrixRevolutions. Other openmat titles I have noticed are the HarryPotter movies, KingKong, Gladiator, just to name a few, and Matrix 2&3..unsure of Matrix1. It is ok, both versions are perfectly watchable, but if it is a movie you totally love, you might want to collect both versions...that is all, no biggy. For the majority of us on here though, just take this "cleaner less muddy"version and be happy :) ![]() ![]() Last edited by pinbwiz; 12-12-2007 at 02:21 PM. |

ok, i actually did some looking around because i'd never heard of open matte, and found this useful page:

Either way, i prefer OAR, the way the director intended. it also gives me that cinema feeling. thank you, pinbwiz, for bringing this up, i actually learned something. |
