![]() Info: "At Last The 1948 Show" featured the writing and performing genius of Monty Python's future collaborators, John Cleese and Graham Chapman, as well as future 'Goodie', Tim Brooke-Taylor and Marty Feldman. Executive produced by David Frost, who had previously worked with Cleese on "The Frost Report", "At Last The 1948 Show" combined the team's talents in stunning comedy style and even featured an early version of 'The Four Yorkshiremen' sketch, which would become a staple of the Monty Python stage show. "At Last The 1948 Show" gave Cleese and Chapman the opportunity to write and perform the kind of unrelated skits that changed the face of sketch comedy as we know it, and paved the way towards Monty Python and its comedic legacy. ![]()

You are my idol.
This is a rare example of true comedy. Have you ever head of The Marty Feldman Comedy Machine, 1971 or 1972 Dean Martin's regular summer replacement "The Golddiggers," Marty Feldman got his own summer show, a US/UK co-production with a transatlantic team of talents, including Spike Milligan, Barbara Feldon and Peter Sellers- future superstar directors Barry Levinson (writing and performing) and Terry Gilliam (doing Pythonesque animations, naturally), overseen by Larry Gelbart, a year before he developed "M*A*S*H" for television. The result: a collection of comedy as subtle as Feldman's hook nose and lazy eye, considered "Monty Python Lite," but it went far to prepare us for "Python's" debut on American TV a year later. My roommate and I dropped acid every Wed. night just for this 1/2 hour show. It was an expedition into a very warped mind- to us in the early 70's it was the best brain candy to be seen. I hope you can find it, I've written: NBC, BBC, ETC... ![]() |
