I've got a tonne of ripped blu-ray movies/shows and have extracted the *.sup subs to use. I have no issue in converting them all into *.srt subs, i'm using SubRip for this and it's an excellent application, and produces far better subtitles than the originals.
My question is purely out of interest, I've used various methods to attach *.sup subs to one of the said video streams. However no matter how I have tried the alignment is always the same, the subs sit at the top-left corner of the stream.
I have been using DBSup2Sub in an attempt to re-save the *.sup subs with forced alignment, with offsetting and resizing the subs. I have also tried to force MPC to load the subs externally, both original and re-saved with no success.
The only option I can see, which I have not tried, is to use an alternate container from *.mkv to hold the streams. I know from various forums that *.mkv has/had issues with *.sup subs, however these posts are at least 2 years old, nothing newer, and since these posts those apps have all been updated and don't list these issues anymore.
Is there a reason why the alignment is wrong using *.sup subs, no other format I've tried has this issue.

Use the latest mkvtoolnix to mux the original .sup files alongside reencoded video and audio into a mkv container and play those mkv files with MPC-HC with EVR Custom Pres. renderer.

I had a look over the output settings in MPC, however the EVR Custom Pres. renderer is already selected from default settings. Changing the renderer to the other one which also renders internal subs hasn't made any difference.
