NEVER use a cracked or bootleg AV. NEVER. If you don't wish to invest in paid-for AV, get a good free one. There are several excellent ones available, several have been mentioned here. Personally, I use Microsoft Security Essentials when I or one of my customers needs a free AV. It is rated near the top by all of the independent testing labs, and that includes the paid AV's. A fine product.

I have many complaints about Microsoft over the last 30 years, but MSE is definitely something that they have gotten right, and it's FREE!!!

My two cents.

And if your PC is infected big time, where you are unable to boot or access programs and you need to clean it, you can use Hiren's Boot CD!

http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd
You can boot into the CD and run the security programs to clean your PC and fix PC problems! It has combofix and rkill already in the boot CD. Though word of caution before running rkill or combofix, they might do some irreversible damage to you system while running, so use a Linux LiveCD to back up your data and then up and at those viruses!!

P.S: I know it is an old topic, but i thought i would add Hiren's boot CD to the list for those in dire need!

The easiest way to delete a virus is just booting a Linux live cd and delete the virus files on the Windows partition from there.

Question:

Will any of those solutions in the OP will conflict with Microsoft Security Essentials?
