Bad news, still having packet loss.

During packet loss I did a trace, I don't know if this helps at all

After

Result

I wish I had taken a picture of the results before the DNS thing, but looking at the Average ping, its certainly lowered. Not sure about the packet loss as I usually get about 20 packet loss every 10k packets sent, sometimes less, and sometimes more packet loss. But one things for sure, it will happen, usually at the worst of times when playing.

Any more suggestion? I'll try a different coax cable when I get a chance later.

Ok, then let's try to use the entire bandwidth. Windows OS usually reserves 20% of available bandwidth, but with DSL fast lines this feature is useless.

Start > run > gpedit.msc > computer configuration > administrative templates > network > QoS packet scheduler > right click on 'limit reservable bandwidth' > limit reservable bandwidth > enable > set the bandwidth limit to 0 (zero) > click on OK > reboot the system

I did it on my three PCs, and there is a sensible improvement. Anyway maybe that packet loss depends on your line. In any case let's try

Well, when I had similar NetGear device (cant remember model), I got all kind of weird problems with it when using Internet in decent load.

At some point I got pissed and just installed DD-WRT over official crappy netgear firmware. Sure it voided warranty, but at least was super stable after that and had far more advanced features too.

Thanks for this tip, but it doesn't seem to work. After restarting my computer, my main account freezes. After it logs in to windows, the thing just freezes. This doesn't happen though in my other account in this computer. I tried logging in again (3 times) also tried switching users, didn't work, my main account always froze.

Although after following your guide again, but this time I left it to what it was before, which was No Configuration, my account worked again! I don't know what the problem seems to be the problem, but when I did that, it started to bug my windows account.

Is this safe to do? I'm not too experienced with networking stuff yet, I just want to make sure this is fool-proof if ever I make a mistake.

I searched around and people doesn't seem to like DD-WRT on WNDR3300:

***I'm going to Fry's Electronics tomorrow, do you guys recommend any specific coax cable or splitter?(Amazon is also fine) After installing the new coax, I'll test if I still get packet loss, if I do, ill remove the router and connect directly to the modem. I'll post again tomorrow.

***What specs should I look at when looking for a coax cable or splitter?

***I was reading some stuff about the splitters and they were talking about all these db sound stuff, I don't quite get it, could someone explain? I read that all these splitting of coax cable could cause packet loss, but I have very hard time understanding all the things they say...

Sorry for the many questions.

THANKS EVERYONE.

Quite strange, as I said my three PCs and other two Pcs at work run fine with that service enabled = 0. Perhaps the issue lies in multiple accounts.

Coaxial cave needed features depend on your modem or router, for instance if within a LAN you can transfer files at 100 Mbps or 1000 Mbps.

I have tried connecting directly to the modem. After 5k packets, I received 6 packet loss. Shouldn't there be 0 since I'm already directly connected?

Is it time to call it quits and just get my ISP to come visit?

Try another modem, can you borrow one from some friends or a neighbor?

At this point we have two possibilities IMO, or the modem must be replaced or the issue is a ISP one.

Thanks Shawn for the help. I couldn't get my hands on another modem.

Just tried replacing the coxial cable, removing the splitter to my tv and plugging directly to the wall, and with this setup, I have the modem connected directly to my PC.

After a few hours pinging google, I got 5 packet loss out of 15k packets sent. Not as much as people, but it still there, or it could just be coincidental that there are less packet loss at this certain time.

I'll just get Cox to send a technician. Hopefully they can fix this.

Thank you guys for taking the time trying to help me !
