Default unable to update Windows 7

Ok, so after my last issue with Ultimate Defrag messing up the system, I did a fresh install of Windows. However, now, it won't update. It says the service isn't on, or the pc needs to be rebooted. I checked services. Turned the updater off and on again, still nothing. I've tried to go under the control panel, and have the pc find and fix problem with the updater. Still nothing. Any ideas?

Thank you

Nope, neither of them worked. The Hotfix doesn't work either.

If you don't have service pack one yet you could try and download the the offline installer and try and see if it installs and fixes it.

yesterday mornin I fired up WU (I always do this manually) and I got a message tellin me that Windows Update needs an ...update in order to download the new fixes & patches.
I said, wtf? had a cold beer and I pressed the OK button.
See, that was my notebook, 100% legit so I didnt care none.
There was a download around 20MBs (pretty big if you ask me), I rebooted and then a whole lot of different updates showed up in CP.
tell you the truth I was ready to post here, askin if anyone had any issues on a non-legit Windowz copy, but as usual I totally forgot about that.

BTW, that thing switched all my .NET optimization services from "Manual" to "Automatic".
I never leave these runnin. There hoggin up my resources without any apparent benefit.

Check your time and date to make sure it is correct. If it is too far off WU won't work.

Ok, so I found someone online that said they were having issues updating Windows with their new 1TB drive. Well, all my other drives have been 500GB, and my new one is a 750GB. He said he had to install a new IRST driver. Well I looked on my pc, and couldn't find any to begin with. So I installed the one I found on Intel's site, and wallah, seems to be working fine. Other than the light saying my HD is being accessed has been on for a long time.

Thank you for everyone's input.

Since the issue has been solved I'm going to close the thread. If, for any reason, the problem re-appears please send me a PM and I'll re-open it.
