I'd like to create a web-dl of a show that is in HD on iTunes. It has not been released by anyone as a web-dl, and probably will never be. I'd like to do this myself, but I can't find any definitive sources about stripping iTunes DRM. There are a few apps I've found that reencode the video, but I want something that will remove the DRM without quality loss. If possible, I'd like an app that doesn't even reencode the video.
Could anyone help me out?

Tunebite does it as well but it does reencode you can set passthrough settings so that there is no quality loss.

Hmmm, I tried both, but my computer isn't fast enough to capture the vids realtime :(. Thanks for the suggestions tho. I guess I'll just have to use a friends computer.

You need a program called Requiem (google requiem itunes) and an older version of iTunes. I've used some version of iTunes 8 and the corresponding version of Requiem. It simply decrypts the files, which means it's fast, but you'll need an additional program to remove your iTunes credentials.

And the version of Requiem that work for iTunes 9 are for Mac only. I wonder if iTunes 9 can access the iTunes store? I'll have to give it a try on a friend's computer. @Attraktor: I would much appreciate if you could post in this thread whatever you've sent the OP via PM, since this is a PUBLIC discussion and posted replies could possibly be helpful to other members as well.. Thanks for your understanding. Last edited by tpAVm; 02-13-11 at 03:40 PM. |

The PM was not intended for "publication" as it was initially intended for someone's specific problem and was not very well written. Give me some time to modify it and make it more "suited" for the general public. I will post it here once I have completed it. Last edited by Attraktor; 02-13-11 at 06:32 PM. |

| Master ![]() Join Date: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,332 | Removing DRM protection from iTunes video files This method removes the DRM protection and does not involve any re-encoding of the original video and audio tracks. It will only work on future iTunes downloaded titles. If you already have some iTunes files, which you have downloaded with iTunes versions above version 8.1.1, it will not work. Also, I will be describing a method which requires you to use 2 PC's. There is a method for MAC's, but I do not have any experience with it and can't help you with that one. You will also need a specific set of programs which I have uploaded for you to download. To ensure that this method works, do not use any other versions or update them at any time! This does not apply to MKVMerge. You may use any version of this program. Here are the programs you will need: Netload Code: Select All http://www.netload.in/dateisccx4yIW0o/iTunesSetup.9.0.2.25.rar.htm http://www.netload.in/datei3WOX10CFNv/iTunesSetup811.rar.htm http://www.netload.in/dateid1x6WWZQ4Z/mkvtoolnix-unicode-4.5.0-setup.rar.htm http://www.netload.in/dateiSgrU3aO2rB/QuickTimeInstaller.7.6.rar.htm http://www.netload.in/datei7s3cNUtLx2/requiem-1.8.10.rar.htm Code: Select All http://www.fileserve.com/file/vdZ4MWR/iTunesSetup.9.0.2.25.rar http://www.fileserve.com/file/WgdQ82E/iTunesSetup811.rar http://www.fileserve.com/file/Awm6yJR/mkvtoolnix_unicode_4.5.0_setup.rar http://www.fileserve.com/file/ddZkHam/QuickTimeInstaller.7.6.rar http://www.fileserve.com/file/B4kUXuD/requiem_1.8.10.rar Code: Select All http://www.rapidshare.com/files/447865499/iTunesSetup.9.0.2.25.rar http://www.rapidshare.com/files/447865489/iTunesSetup811.rar http://www.rapidshare.com/files/447865442/mkvtoolnix_unicode_4.5.0_setup.rar http://www.rapidshare.com/files/447865867/QuickTimeInstaller.7.6.rar http://www.rapidshare.com/files/447865444/requiem_1.8.10.rar Getting started. Note: for future reference, I will be referring to the 2 PC's as PC1 and PC2. On PC1, you must install iTunes version 9.0.2.25. I don't know what newer versions will work with this method, so to keep things safe, use only this version! If you previously had a newer version of iTunes on this PC, you must de-install it and remove all traces (registry, etc.) that this version was installed. This could be tricky and I don't have detailed instructions what you need to do for a clean de-install. The best solution is to re-install Windows. I know, a lot of work, but I can't help you with the de-install thingy. Assuming you now have iTunes version 9.0.2.25 installed on PC1, you can start the program and login to your account. Now, you must authorize this PC for that account. Let's move on to PC2. On PC2, you will need to install iTunes version 8.1.1, Quicktime version 7.6, and a program called Requiem version 1.8.10. I don't know if installing a newer version of Quicktime will cause any problems with what we are doing here, but to be on the safe side, install only that version and avoid any updates for all of these programs! Again, if you had a newer version of iTunes installed on this PC, you must de-install it and all traces of that version. Like I said before, it's best to go for a clean re-installl of Windows. Requiem does not install on your PC. It is a Java application, so you need to have Java installed on this PC. Ok, once you have completed the installation of those programs on PC2, you can start iTunes version 8.1.1 and login to the same account as the one used on PC1. Now, authorize PC2 for that account. You now have 2 PC's authorized for the same account. Downloading and removing the DRM protection from your files. With PC1, you can now purchase a new iTunes title. DO NOT download this purchase with PC1! If the download starts automatically after the purchase, no problem. Pause the download. As long as you don't completly download the file with PC1, all is well, but if the download is completed, you won't be able to remove the DRM protection with this method. Ok, so you have purchased a new iTunes title with PC1. Now, go to PC2 and look for the newly purchased title in your download que. You can now download that title using PC2. When the download is completed, you can start Requiem version 1.8.10. Add the .m4v file (your newly purchased and downloaded title) to the Requiem que and press the "Decrypt" button. This may take a few minutes depending on the filesize. If all goes well and you have received no error messages, you should now see a .mp4 file in your destination folder. The DRM protection is now completely removed from the .m4v file and a .mp4 file was created. You are still not done yet. A note of caution at this point: Never distribute your .m4v or .mp4 files to the public. They contain your account data! Creating a .mkv file from a .mp4 file. Now, using either PC (PC1 or PC2), you must create a .mkv file from the .mp4 file. You need to install MKVMerge (MKVToolnix) on that computer. Start MKVMerge and Drag & Drop your .mp4 file into the que at the top. In the lower/larger window you will now see which tracks are included in that file. You will see a video track and an AC3 audio track. When downloading iTunes HD titles, there is usually a AC3 (5.1) audio track and a AAC2.0 audio track included. There are however many titles with only a AAC2.0 audio track. In MKVMerge you can decide which tracks you wish to be included in your .mkv file by checking or unchecking those tracks. Important: before you start muxing your file, ALWAYS highlight each track and go to the "Extra Options" tab. There, you will see a field labeled "Compression". ALWAYS set this to "none" for each track you wish to include in your .mkv file. Otherwise, people with certain media players (hardware), might encounter problems when trying to play back these files. Before you press the "Start muxing" button, you can set the destination and the filename. When choosing a filename, always try using the standard naming convention (Title.720p.WEB-DL.video codec.audio codec-release group). To get a better idea, take a look at previous released WEB-DL's as a reference. Ok, now hit "Start muxing" and after a few minutes, you will have your new WEB-DL release! Always test the file with several standard players like Windows Media Player, VLC, etc. to make sure that everything worked properly. DONE! Last edited by Attraktor; 04-02-11 at 09:37 PM.
