The process of creating so-called "WEB-DL" releases from iTunes movies and tv shows is relatively simple. You strip the DRM with Requiem, dump the newly outputed mp4 file into the mkvmerge GUI and output to an MKV file. There is no re-encoding done to either the audio or video. (I know, stripping the DRM with Requiem can be tricky.)
My question is -- how would one reverse that process? What if you want to take a WEB-DL mkv and remux the video and audio back into an mp4 container? (for use with an iPad or Apple TV, for example) Since the video and audio streams are -- obviously -- iTunes compliant AVC and AAC, there should be no need to do any re-encoding.
Anyone know how? What program(s) can do it?
I've been searching online for a couple days and can't find an answer.

I too would like to do this, it's silly having itunes content not playable in itunes just becase of the container. When I convert to MP4 (remux) it never works like it should, either goes out of sync or no audio. |

I believe MP4Box GUI can do the trick. I haven't tried it yet though, but it looks like it can just mux video and audio streams together like MKVMerge does (without encoding). If I can find the time, I will test it and see if it works the way i think it does. Code: Select All http://www.videohelp.com/tools/My_MP4Box_GUI |

Right. I tried avidemux. That didn't work well. I couldn't seek through the video on the outputed file. I tried demuxing with mkvextract and then remuxing the video and audio tracks with virtualdub and that made the audio go out of sync. I tried a program called GOTsent, but it seems to re-encode the audio, even when the file only has a 2 channel stereo track. A program called XenonMKV allegedly does the same thing. Both Xenon and GOTsent are said to re-encode the audio for compatibility with xbox or ps3. If anyone has other ideas, that'd be great. |

Code: Select All http://www.videohelp.com/tools/My_MP4Box_GUI MP4Box doesn't specifically work with MKV files, but I did get it to work after extracting the streams with mkvextract. The first time I kept the frame rate as "no change," but it still changed the fps from 23.976 to 25 and I ended up with the audio going out of sync. The second time I set the fps directly and it stayed in sync. So it's a two step process -- mkvextract first, mp4box second. I was hoping for an all in one solution, but perhaps no one has written a program that can do that. This is still better than nothing. If anyone else knows a better option, don't hold back. :) |
